SORROW AND SILENCE: Indianapolis Colts Owner Jim Irsay Dies at 65
The Indianapolis Colts and the entire NFL community are deeply saddened by the passing of Jim Irsay, the team’s longtime owner and CEO, who died peacefully in his sleep on May 21, 2025, at the age of 65.
Irsay took over the Colts in 1997 after the death of his father, Robert Irsay, and guided the franchise through one of its most successful periods. Under his leadership, the team won eight division titles and captured the Super Bowl XLI championship in 2007. Notably, the Colts drafted quarterback Peyton Manning in 1998, a decision that greatly shaped the future of the franchise.
Beyond football, Irsay was widely recognized for his passion for music and charitable work. He built a remarkable collection of music memorabilia and often hosted public exhibits and performances with his band. His philanthropic efforts focused on mental health, addiction recovery, and supporting marginalized communities throughout Indiana and beyond.
Former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning expressed his sadness, saying, I am deeply heartbroken by Jim Irsay’s passing. His dedication to the Colts and Indianapolis was unparalleled, and his influence on players will always be remembered.
Irsay is survived by his three daughters Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt, and Kalen Jackson who have played active roles in the organization and are expected to continue his legacy.
The Colts plan to honor Irsay’s memory by inducting him into the Colts Ring of Honor at the season opener against the Miami Dolphins.
