After Initial Bomb, ‘Buckingham Nicks’ Now a Vinyl Treasure and Finally Getting a Reissue
In 1973, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks released their debut album, Buckingham Nicks, to little fanfare. Despite its striking cover and confident sound, the record flopped commercially, prompting Polydor to drop the duo. Nicks returned to waitressing while Buckingham toured with Don Everly. Their big break wouldn’t come until a year later, when Mick Fleetwood heard the track Frozen Love and invited them both to join Fleetwood Mac setting in motion one of rock’s most iconic lineups.
Though forgotten by the charts, Buckingham Nicks gradually gained legendary status among collectors. With no official CD or digital release, the album became a coveted vinyl grail. Original pressings sold for \$20 to \$90, often exceeding \$100 for mint copies. Record stores like Minneapolis’s Electric Fetus reported getting only a few copies a year, which sold within hours.

After decades in limbo, the long-awaited reissue is finally on the horizon. On September 19, 2025 Rhino (a Warner Music Group label) will release a remastered version of Buckingham Nicks on streaming platforms, CD, and vinyl including limited-edition colored pressings and replicas of original 7 singles. It will mark the first official re-release of the album in any format.
Reflecting on the record’s unexpected endurance, Nicks noted:
It stands up in a way you hope it would, by these two kids who were pretty young to be doing that work.
What began as a commercial disappointment has become a cherished piece of music history. For fans and collectors alike, Buckingham Nicks is no longer just a hidden artifact it’s a rediscovered gem ready for a new generation.
