TERNAL TRIBUTE! Collingwood FC Unveil Official Plans for Bronze Statue Honoring Nathan Buckley

Collingwood Football Club has announced official plans to honor one of its most iconic figures, Nathan Buckley, with a stunning bronze statue that will stand as a permanent tribute to his incredible legacy. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the club’s Melbourne headquarters, where key club officials and past teammates gathered to celebrate Buckley’s profound impact on the Magpies.

This is more than just a statue, said club president Mark Browne. “It’s a symbol of what Nathan Buckley means to the Collingwood Football Club. A leader, a warrior, and a Magpie through and through. His influence shaped a generation of players and inspired millions of fans across Australia and beyond.

Nathan Buckley’s journey with Collingwood began in 1994 when he was drafted as a young talent. Over a distinguished playing career spanning 280 games, Buckley was known not only for his extraordinary skill and football IQ but also for his unwavering commitment and leadership on the field. He captained the club for many years, guiding the Magpies through highs and lows and earning admiration for his grit and determination.

Following his playing career, Buckley transitioned seamlessly into coaching, taking the helm as Collingwood’s senior coach. Under his leadership, the Magpies returned to premiership contention, highlighted by their thrilling Grand Final appearance in 2018.

The bronze statue will be placed at the club’s home ground, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), serving as an enduring reminder of Buckley’s legacy for players and supporters alike. Crafted by renowned sculptor David Marshall, the statue captures Buckley in a dynamic pose that reflects his intensity and passion.

The club plans to unveil the statue during the 2026 AFL season in a special ceremony attended by current players, club legends, and fans, further cementing Buckley’s place in Collingwood’s storied history.

This tribute celebrates not just Nathan Buckley the player and coach, but Nathan Buckley the man   a true Collingwood Magpie forever, Browne concluded.
