Cape May, NJ – A shocking incident rocked the peaceful coastal town late last night as the residence of Cape May’s Mayor, Zachary Mullock, was set on fire in what authorities are calling a deliberate act of arson.

According to preliminary reports, the fire broke out around 11:30 p.m. at the mayor’s historic home on Columbia Avenue. Firefighters arrived swiftly and managed to contain the flames before they could spread to neighboring properties. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though the home sustained significant damage.

Eyewitnesses claimed to have seen two masked individuals fleeing the scene shortly before the fire erupted. Surveillance footage from nearby properties is currently being reviewed. While the identities of the perpetrators remain unknown, one witness described them as “dressed in all black, possibly with hooded sweatshirts and carrying what looked like fuel canisters.”

Mayor Mullock, who was not home at the time of the incident, released a statement early this morning thanking first responders and vowing to continue his work undeterred.

Authorities are treating the fire as a targeted attack and have launched a full investigation. Residents are urged to come forward with any information that may aid the ongoing search for those responsible.
