Netflix Announces Documentary Series Songbird: The Christine McVie Story
Netflix has officially announced a new documentary series paying tribute to one of rock music’s most enduring and enigmatic talents Christine McVie. Titled Songbird: The Christine McVie Story the series promises to offer an intimate and comprehensive look at the life, legacy, and soul of the iconic Fleetwood Mac singer, songwriter, and keyboardist.
Set to premiere later this year, the multi-part series will chronicle McVie’s rise from her early days in the British blues scene to her meteoric success with Fleetwood Mac, where she became one of the driving creative forces behind the band’s global dominance in the 1970s and ’80s. With her soulful voice and introspective songwriting, McVie penned some of the band’s most beloved hits, including “Everywhere,” Little Lies, Say You Love Me, and the poignant Songbird, from which the series draws its title.
Through never-before-seen archival footage, personal journals, rare performances, and new interviews with bandmates, friends, and music legends, Songbird will explore McVie’s artistry, quiet strength, and enduring influence on generations of musicians. It will also delve into her often-overlooked role in shaping Fleetwood Mac’s signature sound, as well as the emotional complexity of life within one of the most famously tumultuous bands in rock history.
Executive produced by Christine’s estate and Fleetwood Mac members Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks, the documentary is being helmed by award-winning director Liz Garbus, known for her work on What Happened, Miss Simone? and Love, Marilyn
Christine was the heart of Fleetwood Mac, said Nicks in a statement. This documentary is a tribute to her grace, her talent, and the beautiful songs she left us.
