Ron Dayne, the legendary Wisconsin Badgers running back and Heisman Trophy winner, has tragically passed away at the age of 48. Known as “The Great Dayne,” he left an indelible mark on college football with his remarkable combination of size, speed, and power.
Dayne’s college career was nothing short of extraordinary. He set the NCAA Division I-A career rushing record with 6,397 yards, a mark that would have surpassed 7,000 yards had bowl game statistics been included. In his senior season, he rushed for 2,034 yards and 20 touchdowns, earning the 1999 Heisman Trophy and multiple other accolades, including the Maxwell, Walter Camp, and Doak Walker Awards.
After college, Dayne was selected by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He also played for the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans during his eight-season NFL career.
