A Legacy Rekindled
Posluszny isn’t just another name in the Penn State football annals—he’s a legend. During his college career from 2003 to 2006, he became one of the most decorated linebackers in NCAA history. Twice a consensus All-American, Posluszny won the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker in 2005 and captured back-to-back Chuck Bednarik Awards in 2005 and 2006 as the country’s top defensive player. He also left Happy Valley as the school’s all-time leading tackler with 372 stops, a record that stood for years.
Now, nearly two decades later, “Poz” returns not to chase glory, but to help shape it—for the next generation of Penn State linebackers.
NFL Star Turned Mentor
Following his stellar college career, Posluszny was selected in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He went on to enjoy a successful 11-year NFL career, also starring with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 2013, he earned Pro Bowl honors and built a reputation for being a consummate professional—tough, intelligent, and relentlessly prepared.
Since retiring in 2017, Posluszny stayed active in football circles, even while completing an MBA and working in the defense industry. Yet the pull of the game—and his alma mater—never faded. His return to Penn State is being welcomed not just as a homecoming, but as a calculated effort to restore the linebacker corps to national prominence.
Rebuilding ‘Linebacker U’
Penn State’s nickname, “Linebacker U,” was built on the backs of greats like Jack Ham, Shane Conlan, LaVar Arrington, Dan Connor, and, of course, Posluszny himself. However, recent years have seen some inconsistency at the position, with fewer dominant performances and All-America selections than in decades past.
Head coach James Franklin made it clear: bringing back Posluszny is part of a larger plan to reestablish Penn State as the premier destination for elite linebackers.
